Nationwide Insurance net operating income (NOI) for the first nine months of 2012 was reported on Friday (Nov. 9), and it appears to be good news for stakeholders in the company as well as customers signed up who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.

State Farm Insurance received a rare national honor on Thursday (Nov. 8) when National Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Committee Chairman Jim Rebholz presented the company with the Extraordinary Employer Support Award for its work with military employees. The news couldn't be better for Marie Dillon, State Farm Military Affinity Group President.

Election Night is over, and the results are official. President Barack Obama has won a second term, and the fate of his health care law is decided. 

More than 30 million people are expected to receive coverage, though as a result it is not known how existing shortages in medical professionals will be able to handle the influx without affecting the quality of coverage.

Allstate Foundation Grants $1 Million to Domestic Violence Survivors

The year was 2005. The place, Fort Smith, Ark. The victim: 41-year old Christina Springs. A few miles from a safe house, her car was rammed by her abusive ex-husband. Thomas Springs, 43, then proceeded to get out of the car and attack, ramming Springs' head into the dashboard of the car she was traveling in. Thomas Springs then returned to his car, grabbed a knife and attacked the mother of his children, stabbing her 24 times in the chest. As Springs took the attack, she asked him to "Please stop," and said that she would let him "see the kids."

Nationwide Insurance Executives Honored in Black Enterprise Top 100

Nationwide Insurance received a bit of good news last week when it was announced that top executives for the company Gale King and Gary Douglas were named two of the 100 Most Powerful Executives for 2012 in Black Enterprise Magazine’s annual spotlight. 

King serves Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company as the executive vice-president and chief administrative officer, while Douglas is president and chief operating officer of Nationwide Agribusiness.

State Farm Study Highlights Dangers of Halloween

State Farm Insurance released a study on Tuesday (Oct. 23) that highlighted Halloween as the deadliest day of the year for child fatality accidents. The study was conducted in conjunction with Bert Sperling of Sperling's BestPlaces, and found that "from 1990 – 2010 for children 0-18 years of age" fatalities more than doubled in comparison to any other day of the year.

Allstate Rep Appointed to NGLCC Board of Directors

Allstate Insurance is throwing its hat into the equality arena with the appointment of Cheryl Harris to the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) Board of Directors. Harris, the senior vice-president of sourcing and procurement solutions for Allstate Insurance, will build on her existing role as an "allied brand ambassador for the NGLCC and a constant source of thought leadership on diversity and inclusion best practices," according to a company release.

State Farm Retirement Illustrated Calculator Makes Planning Easy

October has been a busy month for insurance companies across the country. From the GEICO Tricky Traffic mobile game for National Teen Driver Safety Week to the Allstate Purple Purse Campaign in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, companies are more active now than perhaps any other time of the year.

State Farm has stayed busy throughout October with programs to promote safe driving, especially among teenagers, but now the insurance provider is switching gears for Oct. 21-27 for National Save for Retirement Week.
